History:
Madder Lake is a lake derived from the extract of the root of the madder plant (rubia tintorium).

It was used by the ancient Egyptians for coloring textiles and then was continuosly used until today. Madder lake was most widely used in the 18th and 19th century, though never as extensively as the ruby-like lakes.

It is the darker shade of Madder Lake.
