Black tourmaline is a popular gemstone that has been used for centuries for its healing properties. It is believed to have been discovered by Dutch traders in the late 1600s in Sri Lanka. The name "tourmaline" comes from the Sinhalese word "tura mali," which means "stone of mixed colors."
Tourmaline is a crystalline boron silicate mineral compounded with various elements such as aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone and comes in a wide range of colors, one of which is black, known as Schorl or Black Tourmaline.
