Oxide Blue PB15 is one of the most important synthetic blue pigments in the modern artist's palette.
Phthalocyanine blue was discovered somewhat accidentally in 1927 at Scottish Dyes Ltd. when chemists noticed an intensely blue impurity in a reaction vessel. ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) developed it commercially in the 1930s under the trade name "Monastral Blue," and it quickly revolutionized the pigment industry.
