Indanthrone Blue is classified as an organic vat pigment. It is a rich, deep blue with a subtly warm undertone. It has a transparent quality, making it excellent for glazing techniques with a non-granulating texture in watercolor applications.
Indanthrone was originally developed as a vat dye in the early 20th century by German chemical companies (around 1901). Vat dyes were known for exceptional fastness properties on textiles. Later, it was adapted as a pigment for artist paints and industrial applications, becoming available to artists primarily in the mid-to-late 20th century.

Handmade watercolors may not look as nice as those made by factories. We aim to make highly pigmented and flowy watercolors. Flowy watercolor lets you create layers in watercolor, lovely loose paintings, and much more.
Each is handmade using our selected, high-quality pigment and gum arabic solution made from distilled water, gum arabic powder from France, glycerine, and honey.
