Cuprite is a mineral composed of copper oxide (Cu2O) and is known for its deep red to dark red color. It crystallizes in the cubic system and often occurs as octahedral or dodecahedral crystals, as well as massive or earthy forms.
It has been used as a gemstone and as a pigment for creating red pigments in ancient art and pottery. In addition to its use as a pigment and gemstone, cuprite has industrial significance as an ore of copper.
