We were looking for some motivational quotes and one of our beloved followers gave me a quote from V (Kim Tae-hyung), a South Korean singer-songwriter, composer, producer, actor, and singer of BTS. We were thinking why not teach our followers how to draw him?
We believe a good artist knows the proportion or scale of how our face construct. We saw lots of people teaching others how to draw by dividing a picture into grids and learners draw the character or images by following the grids to draw outlines.
It is easy for beginners who don't know how to start but in a long term, you barely know to draw properly without grids. From this video, even it's not a long video, you would see how we draw easily from the start.
I usually roughly draw the silhouette of the face and draw a line for the eyes. If eyes are tilted, so does the line you draw.
Based on the nose, we separated 3 parts equally on the line. Since V is looking at 3/7 angel, his left eye right appears smaller and we need to mark the end of his right eye.
I drew some guilding lines to help me locate the nose and lips.
At this point, we need to modify the shape better. Then, we can draw the ear and the shape of hair.
Personally, I do not like drawing hair because it is time-consuming. I would draw the shape of the hair instead.

In this drawing journey, we take you to Lenvik, Norway, and paint the aurora sky together.
We did make a mistake while drawing the sky. Be sure not to miss it, and learn from it.
It means that you apply the paints on wet paper. This can create a soft edge and color graduation. It is uncertain where will two colors go when they mixed together. When it is dry, the colors appear blurry.
This technique is best for drawing the sky, sea, and background.
There are 2 crucial tips you need to be aware of:
We will not have much time when we mix the colors you want while the paper is wet. You may not create the effect you want in your painting.
The good thing is that you could also see how the colors will appear when the bleed blends together.
Some artists may not get the result they want because there are 2 issues when you wet the paper.
First, the paper is too wet. When the paper contains too much water, the paints could not flow evenly. Therefore, you would not get a smooth result. Some paints will leave spotty.
Second, the paper is too dry. When the paper is dry, it doesn’t allow the paints to glide or move on the paper. Our first instinct will add more water to make the paint evenly, right? What will happen if we do it? Some of the paints will take out and you will get a harsh edge. It really doesn’t look well.
This is the mistake I made. You can see the dark blue paint doesn’t go well on the right up corner. If you want to make the area darker, make sure you add more paint while the paper is still wet.
When the details are added. You can splash white paint to create the stars in the sky.
To learn more, you can check out the video below.
In our interpretation, loose painting is a way to show your understanding of the picture and express it through your drawing, rather than drawing every detail of it. In other words, you are telling the quintessence of a story in a visual form.
1.Outline the silhouette
The shape of the objects should remain similar. When we look at a picture, we want the viewer can understand what we are drawing instead of confusing them.
2. Pick the main colors from the objects
For one object, there are maybe more than 10 colors combined from an object. Simplify it by picking 2-4 colours from it. Roughly paint the silhouette of it.
In this bird paint, the body original consists different colors. The painter paints it with one color in orange. He also plays with the depth. In the middle of the body, he uses more paint to show the shadow of it.
3. Utilize the depth of valueYou can apply this on street or building drawing. Try to focus painting more on the shadow areas and slightly omit the areas of light by using lots of water.
4. Be bold and play with brush strokesIn the painting below, at the right bottom corner, the painter paints the bush with bold brush strokes. When you look closely, you can see some lines to show the leaves.
For loose paintings, we need to have a perspective how we want the drawing to be. Be fearless and try to do more approaches.
You can also apply the concept on graphite. We will cover it in the future.
For more, we record a simple video. Check it out on youtube.
There are lots of ways you can do it. In this article, we will talk about 3 trending ways to add gold foil.
This method is good for applying to small areas, like a specific place on your artwork. Since the areas are quite small and particular, I found some very cool glues which help you get your art done. They are Kuretake Colored 2-way glue pens. They provide different tip sizes. One is as small as a pen. The color of the glue is light blue but it turns normal when it is oxidized. What's more, the stickiness is promising. You can even make some glitter calligraphy art with them.
If the area is big, you can try to spray the area with Elmers's adhesive spray glue.
Trim the foil and place the foil face up over the glue.
Since the foil is so fragile, I don’t recommend using anything objects to smoothen it. It will only damage it. I made my mistake when I use it on my artwork. Then I do some trial on paper. I found that the best result is not to touch it after you place the foil in place until the glue is dry. You can slightly press the areas though. If you’re not sure whether it’s dry, just wait for hours. I also found that liquid glue works better than a solid glue stick. Finally, peel the foil off slowly. Oh my, isn’t it beautiful? I feel so excited to see the result.
This method is best for art prints. You may see lots of artists on Instagram layering gold or metallic foil over their original prints.
You may require some tools and machines to get the outcome done.
The foil comes off in 2 ways. One is using heat, and another is using glue. When the areas are printed by a laser printer, the areas will get warm so that the foil will stick onto the prints.
Step 1: Print your prints in a monograms tone with a laser printer. Meanwhile, let the laminator heat up until it’s ready.
Step 2: Cut out the foil and cover the image entirely with the color upwards.
Step 3: Feed your print and foil together through the laminator.
Step 4: When it’s cool down, you can gently peel back the foil! Viola!!
If you are looking for a laminator, you can buy one produced by Amazon. The machine handles paper up to 9 inches wide. You can also change the heat setting for different thicknesses.
This method is also using heat. For this method, you may need a hot stamping machine and a mold with your customized logo or even some fonts.
It sounds like hefty spending on doing this foil art. However, if you want to give a card, letter, or even a note with your personalized name logo to your besties. It can go a long way.
Imagine that it’s an excitement when the receiver got your gift with your logo stamp with foil on top, right?
Making your foil art is REAL fun. To exhilarate your work of art, we have lots of options on foil that you can put on your cart.

]]>In this tutorial, you will see the full process of drawing hair by @artofgordo. He shows the way he draws lady’s curly hair. The step by step approach is suitable to every artist who is struggling drawing hair. You can apply it to any hair drawing and hairstyle.
Before we start outlining the hair, we have to learn the structure of how hair forms when it comes to drawing hair. Therefore, you will have a better understanding of where should you start contour or outline the hair.
1.Volume
It means the shape of the hair. The different hairstyle has a different silhouette. Straighten hair tends to be flatter and not so voluminous and as for curly and wavy hair, they are prone to voluminous and the shape is larger. You may need to measure the distance of the hair from the face to create the volume. If it’s curly hair, you have to be cautious of where the curve starts and ends so that you can draw the natural curves.
2.Flow (Direction)
Flow is the direction of the hair. Due to varied movement, different parts of hair can flow discordantly. Some hair flow upwards or downwards. When you draw the line of hair, you have to remind yourself the hair flows like wind, gently lift the pencil upwards when you finish a line. The lines are smooth and not harsh.
Once you know the volume of the hair and how it flows. You can outline the shape of the hair easily. For curly hair, you need to notice more of the dynamic of the hair.
Every 3D figure is formed in different values and tones. When the light hit the object, the areas of highlight are light values. On the contrary, the shadow areas are dark values. Where something in the middle, which is middle value and aka mid-tone. The light can affect how the hair looks.
To begin the shading hair, we use darker grade pencils to shade in the dark values and work towards the middle value. To create a smooth effect, we can use any blending tools to blend the harsh lines. Don’t be afraid if some graphite leaves on the light values. The knowledge of value can work in any drawing media. You can apply it when you draw color pencils or other media. You can use lighter colors for light values and vice versus.
For the light values, you can use a small-tip eraser to create the light shone on the hair. The more you use the erase, the more the graphite you take off from the drawing. It means that the areas are whiter in graphite drawing.
When you know how to apply the value, this step can be easily done. You can mix the use of pencil and eraser to create the texture. Draw the steady strokes of lines and keep the flow of hair consistently.
In reality, we have a different head shape and hairstyle. To contour and shape the hair well, you can draw a strand of hair to practice the values of the light. Then apply this technique to your drawing.
Our sketching pencils are out now. This set contains all the grades you need and we even double the most-used grades. The premium smooth lead can help you draw and blend the graphite nicely. You won’t experience constant breaking lead while drawing. You can buy them in below link.

The human body is a complex construction because of how the bones and muscles combined together. Rest assured that we are not going to teach you the inside of the hands like bones, tendon, tissue in order to draw a hand at this moment. If you really want to know it, you can check this ( How to draw hands) blog out. You will be amazed by how they form. It’s more advanced than this tutorial.
In this tutorial, we will just need some construction lines to help us draw it. This tutorial only talks about the basis of drawing a hand. Remember, when we draw, we have to pay attention to the angles and proportion. To get the mind-blowing realistic result, we need to learn how to draw the texture which we will discuss it in the future.
Construction lines are the linework used for positioning the objects in the right proportion. The lines are not restricted just the straight lines. They also can be curve lines. Different length can be viewed as different angles of the objects. It’s crucial for beginners as they are not familiar with the perspectives when they begin drawing.
Know more from this Youtube video (How to draw construction lines)
To draw the construction lines of the hand, we simply try to outline the palm. It is to estimate how big your hand to begin with. It’s needless to make it too perfect or detailed. What important is to measure well the distance of each finger so you can draw easily on the next step.
Hand photo reference by Daria Shevtsova
Where else to draw? We also draw the curve lines on every knuckle of the fingers to express the flow and movement of the fingers. Then, you can draw the lines in the middle of each finger. You should be aware of the length of the lines and how the lines placed because it might affect the angles of the fingers.
When you finished all the construction lines, you can outline the hand. The fingers are more rounded off at the ends. The view of the thumb is different than the rest of the fingers. It is a bit pointy towards the nail. Once you draw the knuckles of the fingers, you should pay particularly close attention to them. They are not all the straight lines. You need to draw inwardly a bit on the joints or sometimes outwardly.
It’s fairly important to create the shape of the hands. You want to make it naturally of the movement. For example, as the fingers are closer to your view, you should draw them thicker.
Shading and Highlighting are the twins to get the 3D look and make your drawing come to life. Slowly add up the graphite from the lightest grades to the darkest grades on the shadow. Leave room or space for the highlight. Highlights are the areas where the sun or light hit in.
This technique you’ve learned would help you get the simple method to draw a hand nicely. Nothing can be done perfectly at the beginning and do not afraid of the mistakes.

]]>This part, we have collaborated with Alex Gordo, known as @artofgordo on social media. You will learn how to make your drawing more realistic by shading and blending it.
Art supplies you need:
To start with, we can use some darker grade graphite pencils or charcoal to shade the shirt. We focus on the shadows of the T-shirt. Then, we can use the brush the smooth the graphite out and drag the excessive graphite onto the bland areas to create the shadows nicely.
When the light hits on the objects, the areas become more white. In order to take out the excessive graphite from the paper in small areas, we can use a pointy mechanical eraser.
To shade the eye realistically, you don’t need to shade all the eyes. You can focus on drawing on the darker values and use the brush to soften it out.
The same as drawing eyebrow, firstly, draw the hair of the eyebrow with darker graphite pencils and use the brush to blend the graphite out.
D. Drawing hair
Use the same method as previous, use the darker graphite pencils to draw the shadows of the hair and blend it out. Keep on the process of adding the darker values and blending it out evenly until you get the smooth texture of it and the darkness you want.
Use the eraser to take out the unwanted graphite on the paper to create the highlight.

Since the K-Pop culture has swept across the world recently, almost all the youngsters have been fanatic for this trend. We know some of our art lovers are too. I can’t deny that the K-pop really gets a hook of some people. Their music and dance move have gotten into our head and not to say their perfectly good-looking faces.
Some of you might have tried to draw your super idol’s portrait but failed? How about take a few minutes and draw with us?
As we want to dive deep into details, we divide this into 2 blog posts. This one will be talked about how to outline the face first and the other half will be about the shading and blending to get the realisticity of your drawing.
Things you need:
In order to do the face’s proportion properly, let’s do the measurement on the original photo first.
We take the measurement between the eyes. In the front view, according to the golden ratio, the measure should be 1/3 of the eyes (orange lines). Due to the photo is in a side view, we can utilize some lines (blue lines) to indicate where the eyes (the eyeballs) line in.
We can now outline the eyes as the image below.
To get the proportion easily, we can use the 1/3 measurement (yellow line) to measure the distance of the nose. Besides, we can draw extra lines (green lines) which are perpendicular the line of eyes (orange line) to see where should we draw the sides of the nose.
We only need to draw both sides of the nose and the nostrils. To get the nose realistic, we will just shade this.
As the same method like above, we need to draw two lines (green lines) which are perpendicular to the line of eyes (orange lines) to indicate how wide of the lips.
Just like drawing the eyes, we don’t need to outline all the lips. We just need to outline the center of the top and the bottom of the lips as well as the line of the middle of the lips.
When we got all the face done, we can draw the shape of the face, ears, hair etc
In the next post, we will dig deeper on how to draw realistically with Alex, known as @artofgordo on social media. You can click the link here to continue.

That’s why we invited Annelies Bae (@Annnelies) to break down her tips for drawing hair in graphite. She will show you her way on drawing a girl's in a bun. This step by step guide is foolproof, easy and simple to follow, even you’re just a beginner. What’s more, you can apply these techniques to different hairstyle no matter a male or female, short or long hair, curly or straight hair etc.
Before we jump into the step by step guide, there are some tips which you can apply to every drawing in graphite.
It is because our hands have natural oil when the natural oil is on the paper, it may affect the outcome of the drawing. Furthermore, the tissue paper helps you to block the graphite from the paper to your hands. It results that the residue graphite from your hands may transfer to clear areas. You should be aware of it especially when you draw a big size for drawing.
There are lots of blending tools you can choose from whether it’s an art brush or a stump or even just a q-tip. Everything helps you to blend the graphite into a nice velvety texture. Just choose the one you feel comfortable with.
Why is a mechanical eraser pen rather than a regular eraser? A mechanical eraser pen usually comes in a small and long shape. Not only you can hold it nicely, but most importantly, you can take out some unwanted graphite precisely because there is only a small area touching on the paper. Therefore, it can create the highlight details beautifully.
Here we go NOW! YEAH!
It is a start. You don’t need to outline the hair clearly. Just be careful of the proportion of the head and hair. Outline the hair to segment the parts of the hair.
You can use the light graphite pencils like 3H and H to shade the shadow areas of the hair first but leave the highlight area blank.
In order to blend the graphite nicely and create even value on the paper, you can use an art brush to blend those areas where you were shading. Blending is the best way to create velvety and smooth texture as we mentioned before.
Now you can move on shading some darker areas of the shadow by using darker graphite pencils like HB and B
Keep the blending and shading process on, until you get the texture and result you want.
4. Add more details
No matter what hairstyles you draw, there is always some frizzy hair comes out. You can use darker graphite pencils to add more details on the frizzy hair and the darkest areas on the shadow
Now here you go. I guess it must be beautiful of your drawing. You learn the technique of drawing hair nicely. When it comes to drawing hair, patience places a big part.

]]>Before we jump right into the topic, there are a few words of the parts of the ear you may know. They help you outline the shape with ease.
Helix: the curve of the outer and it is the most distant part of the ear from ears connection to the head.
Antihelix: a curved prominence of cartilage parallel with and in front of the helix on the pinna.
Tragus: a small pointed eminence of the external ear.
Start with lighter grade graphite pencils, like HB or H to outline the ear. We can separate the ear into 2 parts from up to bottom. The tragus is from the bottom part. The top of the tragus and the middle of antihelix align and form the middle of the ear as a whole.
Start shading lighter areas with a 2B in these areas. For the outline, we can use 4B to re-outline the ear to give it more dimensional.
For the darkest areas, we can use 4B to shade it. You can use any blending tools to blend the harsh line between the areas of 2B and 4B.
Based on this image, there are some freckles on the ear. We can use 4B to dot the freckles and use 6B to put the darkest spots on the freckles.
Follow the orange line and outline the ear.
In the orange areas, start shading these lighter areas with 2B graphite pencils and move to 4B to darken the darker areas.
Finally, blend all the shading and smooth the graphite out.
]]>Remember lines and circles are always our best friends when it comes to drawing and sketching, especially for beginners. Lines help us distinguish the proportion and circles help us how to curve the lines and create a 3D effect in shading.
Today, we find two lips examples. One is from a lady with full lips. Another one is from a lady with thin lips and gradient lip makeup.
To start with, draw the lines to separate the upper and bottom lips and their left and right.
Some people may draw two circles on the upper lips and one circle on the bottom lips to indicate how full and size are. This is optional and personal. To minimize this step, when we finish drawing the guiding lines, the cross, we can start shaping the lips by drawing the inner lines of the lips.
Afterward, draw the outer lines of the lips but only in the middle and slowly and draw the outer lines lightly.
Start shading with H shade and paint it all over the lips. When it is done, you can use Q-tips or any blending tools to smooth out the harsh pencil lines and create a velvety effect.
In the darker areas, we can increase the shade by using darker shades gradually like HB, B, 2B, and 4B. The closer of the inner of the lips is, the darker should be.
There are two ways that you can create the highlight. First, you can leave the white areas where the highlight places. Secondly, in our practice, we can use an eraser to do it. A flat or a small pointy eraser helps. Recognize where the highlight should be and erase the area lightly and gradually. Don’t worry if you erase too much. You can build up the shade again.
There are some lines on our lips. We may use HB or B to create the lines. However, for the darkest lines in the inner areas of the lips, we may use the shades darker than the B.
One thing you have to notice is that you should add the details according to the shapes of the lips. The lines are not straight but slightly curvy.
As you can see the picture, the view of the lips is not at the front but more on the left, so that right area occupies more on the image.
Same as the step of full lips, draw the guiding lines first to separate the upper and bottom lips and left and right sides. Then, start outlining the lips on the center.
This lips make-up is different from the last one. The outer lips are paler than the inner and the pink color bit by bit increases on the inner lips.
In this case, you may focus on building the shade more in the middle of the lips.
To create this glossy effect, the same method as the full lips. You can use an eraser to clean off the area where the highlight will be. You can go back to add some shading if you erase too much.
When you finish this step, just follow the same method of the full lips on step 4.
Even though we have different shapes, size or color of our lips. The method is pretty much the same. Be versatile and keep trying. You are now a step closer to draw nicely.
]]>What could these be? It equals a nose. Simply utilize some lines and a circle. You could draw a nose easily. Before we get started, we should know what angles we are drawing and how to apply some lines so that you can draw a nose realistically.
There are two kinds of lines you need to know. First one is the lines of the golden ratio between eyes and a nose (blue ones). Other lines are the bridge lines (orange lines) which refer to the nasal bridge, the upper, bony part of the nose. What is left is the circle (a blue circle) which indicates to the tip of the nose.
As usual, we are going to divide the views into 3 sections.
Draw two golden ratio lines and the bridge lines to get started. The circle you are going to draw should be 1/3 of the golden ratio lines, and it aligns the bottom of the nose.
There is no exact ratio on the bridge lines because everyone's nasal bridges are different from each other. Same goes to the nostrils. One's are more rounded and bigger. Maybe other's are smaller and not visible. Observation is the key to draw.
The lines we required are different from the front view. We need two lines (blue lines ) which are from the inner corner of the eyes to the bottom of the nose. Also, a bridge line guides us to draw the side of the nose and of course, a circle for the tip of the nose.
The size of the nostrils is not equal due to the view of the angles. When the person is facing more on the left side, his/her left nostril appears more. The shape of the nostril is like cashew.
When you figure out the shape of the nose, there is another key element helped you achieve the realistic nose. It is SHADING. You should apply more graphite on the bottom of the nose and leave some blank areas on the side of the bridge. Keep layering up the graphite with darker grades to achieve the look.
Almost the same as the above two views, we need to draw two lines. The bridge line is optional. Let's look at the two examples below.
For the girl, because her nose is quite straight. We need a line from the inner corner of the eyes to the bottom of the nose and another line for the bridge of the nose. Draw these two lines and a circle and start outlining the nose.
For this guy, we may require one more guiding line (orange line ) to help us because of his shape of the nose. When you finished those 3 lines, you may start shaping the nose and nostril. Please be reminded that we only need to draw one nostril on this side view.
Different races have their unique appearance, but this method can apply to all. Try to practise more, and you will get the knack to draw.
]]>The common angles of the face would be the front view, 3/4 view, and side view. Different angles have different proportion measurement. Sometimes, the eye movement will change how we draw. Every subtle way makes a difference.
To start with, draw a straight horizontal line. The measurement between two eyes will be the measuring guide. From this, you can divide three parts equally, one part between the eyes and two parts for the eyes.
There are no any strict rules that you should start with lighter grade graphite, but it's highly recommended to do so. It's great to scale up slowly with darker grades to avoid the messiness and keep blending if necessary.
According to the image, the eyebrows of the model is blurry so the blending method would be helpful to achieve this effect. Draw some eyebrow hair and blend it. Repeat this step over and over and keep layering to the shade you love. Finally, add some details of the eyebrow hair.
The measuring method is almost the same as the front view, and it's also separated into 3 sections (blue lines). For this view, the face is facing more on the right side. When you measure this view, the ratio between the middle part and the right eye ( It depends on which direction the model faces) is almost the same. The left eye is nearly half of the measurement (orange line).
Note: The inner corner of the left eye is rounder than the right eye. It's pointy on the right eye because the eyes are half-opened.
When you draw the eyelashes, it is essential that you start from the bottom and slowly lift your pencil up to create the pointed line at the end. Based on this half-opened eye movement, you should draw the short upper eyelashes.
For this eyebrow, you may start with a lighter grade pencil. Draw the eyebrow hair one by one to create the texture. In the darker and dense area, use the blending technique and draw some darker lines on top of it to create a fuller eyebrow.
This one would be the easier one of all, in my opinion.
As usual, draw the guiding line. Then, draw the almost straight C-shaped across the line. After that, outline the shape of the upper and lower eyelid. Keep shading and blending to achieve a more realistic effect.
When you draw the eyebrow, you should be aware of the distance and angle between the eyebrow and the upper eyelid.
If you find any trouble to outline the shapes of eyes, you could try to trace the eyes from any photos with tracing paper. You will know more how to form the shapes by practicing more.
We have the TEMPLATE of the eyes. You can print it out here and start shading. Have fun and create more art.
]]>Anger, sadness, happiness, worries, every emotion you name it which shows through our eyes. Even when we draw, we start drawing eyes first. This time, we invite Annelies Bes (Instagram: @annnelies) to illustrate how she draws an eye.
1. Outline the Eye
Start outlining the eye with lighter grades graphite pencil. It’s recommended using anything below HB.
It's important that slightly draw the silhouette of the outer line of the eye, the eyeball and the eyelid rather than draw it harshly. It only damages the paper and it will leave the trail on the paper.
2. Adding the shadow
Roughly draw some lines on both sides of the outer and inner corner of the eye and the lower part of the eye.
Then, use the brush to brush off the harsh lines and blend them into an even texture. There are multiple tools to help you achieve the blending goals. You can click here to read our previous post.
3. Create the reflection
Erase some graphite to create the reflection or the light on the eye. Imagine where the light will hit on the eye. It mostly could the eyelid and the eyeball.
4. Repeat the shading and blending process
Now, you can gradually move to use dark grades of the pencil to add more depth to the shadow. Repeat the early shading and blending process to get the desired shadow you want.
Where should the shadow be applied? You should put the shadow on the edge of the upper lid closed to the eyelash, more on the inner and outer corner of the eye.
5. Drawing the lashes
Tips drawing the lashes:
(i) Always start from the bottom - because the lashes grow from the bottom to the tips. In other words, you should put more pressure from the bottom and lift your pencil upwards to create the pointy tips.
(ii) Beware of the direction - the upper lashes are divided differently based on the angle of the eye. As this angle, the lashes should be divided into two parts. The first part is from the inner corner to the end of the eyeball. The lashes on this part should be upward motion. The second part is from the end of the eyeball to the end of the eye. This part is in a downward motion.
6. Drawing the lower lashes
For the lower lashes, some people made the mistake by drawing close to the eyeball. It's essential to leave some gap under the eyeball for the lacrimal punctum area.
7. Adding the details
Finally, adding the details of the eyes. The details could be the lines of the crest, the eye blood streaks, and lashes.
Volià, now you have finished the drawing.
What is blending? Using different blending media to soften or lighten the surface of the drawing. The purpose of blending is to create an even layer and fill out the tiny white areas on paper which graphite or charcoal cannot access.
(i)Blending Stump: It is made of tightly rolled paper. The blending stumps are pointy and sharpened on both sides. It is bulkier than tortillon.
(ii)Tortillon: It is made of rolled paper. It usually comes in one pointy side. It is thinner and harder than a stump.
(iii)Art Brush: It could be synthetic or natural. The brush should be soft and stiff no matter round tips or flat tips because harsh brushes could destroy the paper texture.
(iv)Chamois: It is made of thin and soft leather, mostly from sheepskin or lambskin. It’s ideal for charcoal and pastel.
(v)Q-Tip
(vi)Tissue paper
(vii)Finger
As you could see, brushes give off the smooth texture even on a linear textured paper. Blending with brushes is lighter than Q-tip. Stumps are suitable for smooth paper because the graphite is hard to get into the gaps on the paper.
Blending or not blending? This is the question. It totally is personal and your style. You can create your styles without blending.
